Whilton Mill - KartKraft [2021]

The historic Whilton Mill was the final track for KartKraft I worked on at Motorsport Games Australia, and the first licensed KartKraft track to utilise the Houdini track-creation pipeline.

On this track, I was responsible for the track surface, terrain, track kerbs, line and pit markings and in-engine HDAs used by the art team for fence, barriers, tyre bundles, cabling, and prop placements. The highly skilled and passionate art team hand-crafted the detailed and amazing Whilton Mill models and textures, many which integrated with the HDAs for placement.

While I had developed a suite of HDAs during the creation of the fictional Brentomonte track, Whilton Mill required the addition of ingesting and conforming the track surface to LIDAR scans with the highest possible accuracy. The track conforming process developed here would evolve over the following years and be used on many licensed full-scale racing circuits.

Whilton Mill also provided a personally rewarding challenge for the kerb creation. As a historic track that is regularly updated and maintained, almost no two kerbs are alike around the track, and the tooling had to evolve to be able to hit the accuracy KartKraft is known for.
